Selecting Oran as the venue for the Sonatrach energy event is a smart choice for several factors:

El-Bāhia Wahrān

Oran (in Arabic: وهران (Wahrān), pronounced locally [wɑhren], in Berber: ⵡⴰⵀⵔⴻⵏ (Wahren)), nicknamed “la radieuse” (in Arabic: الباهية, el-Bāhia), is the second-largest city in Algeria and one of the most important cities in the Maghreb. It is a port city on the Mediterranean Sea, located in the northwest of Algeria, 432 km from the capital, Algiers, and serves as the capital of the wilaya of the same name, situated along the Gulf of Oran. The city is located at the end of an open bay to the north and is directly dominated to the west by the Aïdour Mountain (or Murdjajo), which rises to a height of 420 meters, as well as by the plateau of Moulay Abdelkader al-Jilani. The urban area extends on both sides of the ravine of the Oued Rhi, which is now covered.

A PREFERRED, IDEAL DESTINATION

Oran is undoubtedly a tourist city.

The advantages it offers—its nature, climate, and monuments—make it an increasingly favored destination. Exceptional moments of discovery are guaranteed for hikers in this city, which ranks second in Algeria.

Its classic Mediterranean climate features dry summers and mild winters. A sunny and clear sky characterizes the city of Oran.

A CITY FULL OF STORIES

The city, which originated around the year 900, was dominated by the Spanish, the Ottomans, and later the French.

Oran captivates you with the splendor of its historical remains and monuments, making it a magical city with diverse imagery. This uniqueness is attributed to its history, characterized by a blend of civilizations, tolerance, and coexistence throughout the ages.

Oran: A Transformation Between History and Modernity

Oran has undergone significant evolution over the years, transforming from a historic port city into a vibrant urban center. Its infrastructure has been modernized, featuring a network of roads, public transport, and upgraded facilities that cater to both residents and visitors. Major companies, particularly in the energy and tourism sectors, have established a strong presence in the city, contributing to its economic growth. Iconic buildings, such as the new convention center and modern hotels, reflect Oran’s architectural development while blending with its rich heritage. This dynamic environment makes Oran a key player in Algeria’s economic landscape, attracting investment and promoting sustainable urban development.
