JST First Edition

Sonatrach Scientific and Technical Days : 12 Edition - Continuing the Journey Since 1994

Launched in 1994, the JST coincided with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of SONATRACH’s establishment on December 31, 1963. This event was initiated by the former CEO of SONATRACH, Abdelhak BOUHAFS, to create a unique space for scientific and technical communication, allowing for an evaluation of the long journey and the progress made by the company.

As its initiator envisioned, the JST eventually became an international meeting point over time. Held every two years, this event has established itself as a tradition reflecting the scope and ambitions of SONATRACH. The first edition of the JST brought together over 800 delegates around a program that included around sixty scientific and technical presentations.

Yielding significant results, the first JST contributed to the technological advancement of the oil and gas industry in Algeria. Abdelhak BOUHAFS will always remember the enthusiasm of SONATRACH’s staff and the entire workforce from this inaugural edition.

Tribute to Late Abdelhak BOUHAFS

On October 29, 2019, we lost Abdelhak BOUHAFS, former President and CEO of SONATRACH, who led the company from 1989 to 1995 and again from 2000 to 2001. His visionary leadership significantly shaped SONATRACH, notably through the launch of the PROMOS project, which modernized our management processes.
Abdelhak BOUHAFS also initiated the Scientific and Technical Days (JST) in 1994, creating an international platform for exchange among professionals and researchers, fostering essential knowledge sharing related to our activities.
